Tomato mosaic virus is a highly stable plant virus in the genus Tobamovirus that infects a range of solanaceous plants. It causes mosaic patterns, leaf distortion, stunting, and reduced growth in susceptible hosts. ToMV is primarily transmitted mechanically through contaminated hands, tools, plant debris, and soil. The virus can also be present on seed surfaces, allowing seed-to-seedling spread, but it does not infect the seed embryo.
