Brome Mosaic Virus (BMV) spreads through multiple pathways, though its primary transmission route remains unclear. It is efficiently transmitted mechanically via farm machinery, infected plant sap, purified virions. Low-rate transmission has been observed with insect vectors (flea beetles, aphids) and nematodes, as well as through wheat stem rust spores. BMV can also persist in water, indicating it can survive outside hosts and vectors. While seed transmission is generally not considered a major pathway, some older reports have suggested the possibility under certain conditions, though evidence remains limited.
