Local spread occurs through rain showers, watersplash and/or animal or human activities that transport fungal propagules between plants and fields. The primary source of inoculum is sclerotia and pycnidia in the soil or on leaf debris. There are no studies to show how natural dispersal of inoculum occurs among fields, but one may assume that the dispersal of fungal propagules is similar to other soil-borne fungi that produce pycnidia and sclerotia.
