Seed has been suggested as a possible pathway for Kyuri green mottle mosaic virus (KGMMV) in cucurbits, but no confirmed evidence of seed transmission has been found in Cucurbita species. KGMMV is a tobamovirus closely related to Zucchini green mottle mosaic virus and Cucumber green mottle mosaic virus. It is recognized as a soil- and mechanically transmitted pathogen, with soilborne persistence documented as a production issue in Japan. Reports of KGMMV remain limited, with detections primarily from Japan, a single region of Korea, one report from Indonesia, and recent findings in commercial cucurbit seed lots indicating it may be more widespread than previously understood.
