Ramularia beticola is primarily a sugar beet pathogen, and its relevance in other beet types has largely been inferred from sugar beet systems. Symptoms are easily confused with those of Cercospora beticola, making field diagnosis difficult. Although sometimes suggested as seedborne in sugar beet, there is no well-documented evidence of true seed transmission, and disease spread is mainly attributed to infected crop residues and wind- or rain-dispersed spores.
